1946 Marjorie Ramsey Oakley, BA, '49 MA Ed, '87 ABD, Logan, WV, was honored by the WV Dietetic Association as this year's outstanding dietician and is the first woman in WV to become an officer of an institutional food processing and distribution corporation. She formerly hosted a daily food show on TV and was VP of an institutional food processing and distribution company in CA.

1951 Dewey Helmick, BS, Park Forest, IL, retired as copy editor for the Chicago Sun-Times.

1952 Joseph E. Cassis, BS, Moundsville, WV, has been a member of the Moundsville Lions Club for 46 years and is a member of the club's board of directors. He was honored as Lion of the Year.

1953 Boyd H. May, BA, '54 BS, Mosley, VA, is a retired physician and Episcopal priest with four children and nine grandchildren. He enjoys painting, gardening, and playing the bagpipes.

1954 Dallas E. Boggs, BS, Nashville, TN, wrote a book, Frontiers­An Appalachian Survival Story, from the Memories of Ira I. Boggs, which is based on the memories of his father growing up in WV. 1956 Thomas E. Bumgardner, BA, Ballard, WV, wrote a book entitled Lawgic: Cruel and Unusual Punishment, which was published in March 2002. . .Phillip B. Donley, BSPE, '65 MA, West Chester, PA, was the 2003 recipient of the distinguished trainer award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. The annual award honors a trainer for distinguished service to the NATA and to the athletic profession.

1958 Robert H. Grimes, BA, '60 MA, Wheeling, WV, retired as a professor of English at California University at Pennsylvania, and is now back in Wheeling where he has presented chamber music concerts for the Oglebay Institute for many years. . .Roy W. 1960 Robert Eugene Costante Sr., MS, Towson, MD, spent 14 years with the MD State Department of Education, retired after 12 years working for the Insurance for Personal Injury-Workers' Compensation department as the director of risk management, and now teaches evening classes part-time in public education. . . Hart, BS, Oak Ridge, TN, worked for Hercules Inc., Olin Corp., and the Department of the Army before joining the Department of Energy in 1974, and is now retiring after 30 years of service with the federal government.

1961 Karen Murphy Graham, AB, Willits, CA, retired as a resource specialist teacher with the Willitts Unified School District.

1962 John A. Cardea, BS, '66 MD, Richmond, VA, was chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of VA for 27 years. Since February 2002, he has continued to practice orthopaedics, is codirector of the Total Joint Fellowship Program, and remains active in academic administration at the university.

1963 William R. Walter, BS, Columbia, TN, has been the administrator of Maury Regional Hospital for 29 years, and was honored in a dedication ceremony renaming Columbia State Community College's nursing building after him.

1967 Lowell E. Alt Jr., BS, '68 MBA, Salt Lake City, UT, is executive staff director of the Public Service Commission of Utah. . .Pat C. Fragile, BS, '68 MS, '77 JD, Lewisburg, WV, was inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame in a July 3, 2003, ceremony in Chicago, IL, joining WVU grads Jerry West and Sam Huff as inductees. He has been one of West Virginia's top officials in football, basketball, and baseball for the past 34 years. He resides in Lewisburg with his wife, Mary Lou, and practices law in Beckley. . .Daniel L. He is a former USAF fighter pilot with two combat tours in Vietnam and 12 years of active duty. He was twice awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and 13 times awarded the Air Medal for combat valor, and retired with the rank of colonel. He owns RBY Industries, an engineering firm in Pittsburgh, serves as an admissions counselor for the Air Force Academy, and is married to Barbara Sutherland.

Serving up Nutrition in Iraq

Let the embedded journalists complain about MREs. Captain Kerryn Davidson, '96 BS, knows firsthand how seriously the American military takes nutrition.

Davidson, a graduate of the human nutrition and foods program in the Davis College, recently completed a tour of duty as chief of the Nutrition Care Division with the 21st Combat Hospital in Mosul, Iraq. Her duties there varied from running the hospital's dining facility to monitoring special nutritional needs of hospital patients, including wounded American soldiers, Iraqi prisoners of war, and local villagers.

She describes her duty in Iraq as "a great experience for me, personally and professionally. I wish that every American could see what I saw in Iraq." The incredible obstacles faced by the Iraqi people made a tremendous impression on her. "It gives you an even greater appreciation of what we have in America," she said.

Her overseas deployment complete, Davidson has moved on to lead the Nutrition Care Division of the Keller Army Community Hospital at the United States Military Academy at West Point. During her time as a WVU student, Davidson was a member of the Women's Cross Country team, running her way into top ten individual standings in 1992, 1993, and 1994 championships.
